Dial-up sucks!

My internet connection is driving me absolutely crazy. Apart from the fact that it’s painfully slow, sometimes the connection just hangs so to speak and the page you’re trying to load just sits there looking back at you. You may have guessed that I use a dial up connection.
I’m definitely thinking of making the switch to broadband. I think the added expense is more than worth the amount of time you’ll save yourself. This is time I could use for one of my money making projects or even just to put my feet up and relax. Something that should take 30 minutes takes about 90. That puts a serious dent in my productivity and I find it so frustrating.
There are a lot of things I do online like shopping which saves me a lot of hassle in the outside world. This connection is definitely holding me back.

Heart disease, diabetes and chocolates?
Posted by Blogr Mom on May 2nd, 2008 filed in Health
Apparently some research is being done in the UK to see if eating chocolates can reduce the risks of diabetic postmenopausal women developing heart disease. These lucky women get to eat one bar of chocolate every day for a year. They can come and take me, I’d go willingly.
Cocoa, from which chocolate is made, is high in substances known as flavonoids which are thought to be beneficial to the heart. Soy is also high in flavonoids. It is important for the researchers to find out if there’s a link because post-menopausal women who have diabetes are 3 times more likely to develop heart disease than those who are not diabetic. This would help to augment the actions of prescription medication.
Well, for one thing, our ladies will have to do a little bit more exercise or compensate in other ways for those extra calories!!

Do more things with your children
Posted by Blogr Mom on April 28th, 2008 filed in Chldren
Sometimes we underestimate just how much of our attention our children need. As parents we tend to plant our kids in front of the television to keep them out of the way so we can get some things done or just to get some peace and quiet. The other day I was walking through the living room en route to the kitchen when I sat down for a while. When I got up to leave my kids started begging me to stay and watch with them. I was a bit surprised by the pleas and when they insisted I postponed my other activities and sat with them until the end. The film was “Flushed away” which they really enjoy because it’s set in London and we went on holiday there last year. The animation is great and the film itself is fun to watch. I think I will try and do that more often. The joy on their faces is something I’d like to see more often.

You don’t deserve my sympathy!
Posted by Blogr Mom on April 19th, 2008 filed in Family
I’ve been loosely following the saga going on in Texas with the children that were removed from the religious compound of a Mormon sect. I watched the women on Larry King on CNN trying to generate sympathy so that their children would be returned to them.
After watching the interview I was somewhat cynical. The women had obviously agreed on what to say and what issues they should skirt around because they kept coming back to how the children were torn cruelly from them. None of them were married when they were underage, to their knowledge the men did not have sex with minors, and none of them was ready to mention their husbands not to talk of their whereabouts. The pregnant silence that followed some of the questions they were asked and their obvious scrambling for answers that would not be incriminating would have been hilarious in any other circumstances.
Sorry, but I could not find any sympathy for these women. How can you say you don’t know that polygamy is illegal in the US and then claim you’re being persecuted using laws that were enacted just 3 months ago? How did you know about laws that were passed 3 months ago when you don’t know about laws that have been in place for ages? Their lawyers have obviously been working overtime. Whatever is found to be best for those children should be the priority, not the feelings of a group of people who don’t have the decency to be honest with others.

Hello and welcome to Blogr Mom where I basically blog about anything that takes my fancy. Stick around, you’ll find a wide variety of posts about everything under the sun. I blog about family life and children and how to maintain a balance between different areas of your life without giving up your identity. I will also blog about the internet and technology as it relates to my own every day life. I’m not techy particularly but Ive been forced to acquire some knowledge to make blogging easier for me because I’m a hands on person. I like to know how things work so I can do things for myself. I’m also very interested in health issues because health is wealth as they say. If I acquire any new interests I’ll definitely blog about them too.
